Devotees from many parts of the State will congregate at Arulmigu Maha Parameswari Mariamman Temple in mamsapuram on Sunday to celebrate ‘Panguni Pongal.’
The ‘Panguni’ festival began at the temple, managed by the Mamsapuram Therku Theru Nadar Uravinmurai on panguni last week with the auspicious flag hoisting.
Devotees from in and around Virudhunagar observe a penance for 21 days before the day of preparing ‘panguni pongal.’
On panguni devotees will witness the star attraction of the festival when the presiding deity is brought in a chariot and taken out in a procession known as ‘Mariamman Therottam.’

A host of cultural programmes, including stage plays by leading drama troupes, are conducted in the evenings on festival days to entertain devotees.
