michele obama dress was designed by indian designers

MO picks Indian for arrival outfit

What: Michelle Obama delivered a powerful punch of floral diplomacy when she chose to wear an Indian designer on her arrival in Delhi.
Who: Her matching dress and cape were by Bibhu Mohapatra, an Indian-American designer originally from Rourkela and based in New York. He was catapulted into worldwide fame after the first lady wore a dress by him to The Tonight Show With Jay Leno in 2012. On Sunday morning, he confirmed on Twitter that the dress worn by the first lady was his creation.
Desi love: Michelle Obama is known to pluck designers and cast them under the global spotlight, and her roster of regulars includes many Indian-origin designers.

Mumbai-born Naeem Khan is often touted to be her "favourite", and she wore a stunning gold creation by him for the US administration's first State Dinner in 2009, which was attended by then PM Manmohan Singh and his wife. She also frequently sports dresses by Rachel Roy and the Nepalese designer Prabal Gurung.
